From its most basic function as sustenance to a source of joy and comfort, Takeout Only presents artwork by varied artists revolving around that which nourishes us and explores the way in which food has unified and unmasked society in our new normal. .
In the early days of the pandemic, fear and uncertainty tapped into the natural human instinct of self-preservation and prompted society en masse to rush out and stockpile supplies and food—the presumed essentials for survival. The pandemic also brought into focus with a shocking clarity the previously unrecognized importance of food suppliers, those who work at markets, or those who process, cook, and go out to deliver meals. Dining out in cramped spaces amongst friends and strangers, previously an ubiquitous activity in society, became seen as dangerous and in many places banned outright. Restaurants that have not shut down entirely are now serving customers with delivery and take-out only. As they begin to reopen, we are all asking what exactly will be the future of our relationship to food culture?
